| Breaking News | | Saturday, April 13th, 2013: Quijada Strokes 5 Hits It wasn't just another day at the ballpark for Ronald Quijada. It was a very special day, one that many players never experience. But he did. Quijada went on a tear and cracked hit after hit off Walla Walla pitching.
When the dust settled on the diamond at Old League Park, he had a career 5-6 day and something he will long remember. And the River Cities Sternwheelers had a 11-1 victory over the Federal Duck.
"Yeah, it'll be something nice to tell the grandkids, but it won't get me a hit tomorrow," he joked in the postgame interview.
R. Quijada singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, flied out in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.
This season Quijada has hit at a .240 clip and produced 6 RBIs, 3 home runs and 11 runs scored. | | Tuesday, April 9th, 2013: River Cities Loses Callahan for Year River Cities left fielder Alan Callahan could miss the remainder of the season because of a fractured ankle. He exited yesterday's Walla Walla game after injuring himself while running the bases. The original diagnosis said Callahan would be out 8 months. Later on his doctors said he could be out even longer.
"He's done," his manager commented at the BNN press conference. "It's a season-ending injury, but it could have been worse. It's not the worst-case scenario, so we're happy about that."
In 2013 Callahan is currently batting .444 with 2 home runs and 13 RBIs. In 8 games he has reached base at a .531 rate and scored 2 runs to date. | | Sunday, April 7th, 2013: Bad News for River Cities, Miller Hurt The River Cities Sternwheelers got some bad news when the team learned that John Miller was likely to be out for 1-2 weeks after he injured himself throwing a pitch in today's game against the Danville Dans. A round of tests by the team doctors revealed the injury to be a strained back muscle. Upon learning of their diagnosis, the River Cities manager told the press, "As you all know, we can't control injuries -- they are a part of the game. We just have to do the best we can until John is back in action."
