It wasn't black magic, it was just old-fashioned good pitching. That's how Francis Sevin of the Marietta Mammoths blanked the Brighton Beach Yippers 5-0.
After tossing a complete-game 4-hit shutout, he was all smiles, saying, "I threw a lot of my pitches for strikes in this game. I mixed it up and tried keeping these guys off balance."
His own skipper said, "He's at his best when he gets ahead of the hitters." Sevin walked 3 and struck out 7 in the victory.
The Yippers manager commented on their lack of success against him, saying, "He was throwing his breaking ball for strikes and we never capitalized on any of his mistakes."
In 21 starts this season Sevin has crafted a 11-4 record with a 3.38 ERA. | | Sunday, July 7th, 2013: Mammoths Pitching Ravaged by Jaquez It was a sensational day at the plate for Jorge Jaquez as he led the charge to a 8-7 win over the Mammoths.
The Nyack third baseman was pure misery for the Marietta pitching staff. He left them shellshocked with 5 hits in 5 at-bats in an explosive display of hitting.
The manager for the Mammoths told BNN reporters after the game, "Jaquez put the ball into play. He really hit it hard. When you do that, you've got a pretty good chance to do some damage. And that's what happened. I feel like we threw some pretty good pitches, but he just put some good swings on the ball."
J. Jaquez singled in the 1st, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off M. Born in the 8th.
This season Jaquez has banged out 110 hits in 356 at-bats for a .309 average with 6 home runs. He is getting on base at a .367 pace and his totals also include 53 RBIs and 47 runs scored. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 63-57, .525 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 11.0 GB | | Record at home | 29-31, .483 PCT | | Record on the road | 34-26, .567 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 10-15, .400 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 13-16, .448 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 50-41, .549 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 7-3, .700 PCT | | Record in April | 14-14, .500 PCT | | Record in May | 18-11, .621 PCT | | Record in June | 13-12, .520 PCT | | Record in July | 12-17, .414 PCT | | Record in August | 6-3, .667 PCT |
